The
Cascal Group Announces Results for year ended 31st March 2003

Cascal
B.V., an international investment and operations water company, today
announced its end of year financial results for 2002/2003. During the
year, the Cascal Group achieved significant progress from both the financial
and operational standpoints.
Net
turnover increased by 6% to USD 77.1 million whilst operating profit
increased by 18% to USD 15.4 million reflecting the continued success
of programs to enhance the performance and profitability of the Group.
EBITDA and EBIT margins respectively rose from 31% to 35% and from 18%
to 21%.
The
Group achieved a net profit of USD 4.5 million, more than twice last
year net profit and the highest result ever achieved since the formation
of the Group.
Highlights
from the year include the commissioning of two new plants in Chile and
a new customer service centre in Batam Island, Indonesia.
A new
wastewater treatment plant in Calama, northern Chile, was commissioned
and commenced operations under a BOOT contract with the state owned
regional sanitary company. The year 2002 also saw more development in
Chile with the commissioning of infrastructure to supply the Noranda
copper smelter with treated effluent. A new customer service centre
in Batam was opened which has led to significantly higher customer service
levels.
In
2003/04, the Group is on track to deliver further significant progress,
notably in terms of EBITDA and EBIT margins and at the net profit level.
